By Sheyla Adventure Travel By now, you may have heard that new U.S. travel restrictions have been put in place toward Cuba. Under these updated regulations, travelers are no longer allowed to bring Cuban cigars or Cuban rum back into the United States. But here's the good news: you can still enjoy as much rum and cigars in Cuba as you'd like—while you're on the island! And more importantly, you can still legally travel to Cuba under the “Support for the Cuban People” general license. What Changed? The U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) recently amended the Cuban Assets Control Regulations. These changes now require a specific license for attending or organizing professional meetings, conferences, or cultural events like performances, clinics, and exhibitions in Cuba. This replaces the previous general license that made it easier for U.S. citizens to participate in these types of activities. If you want to read the official language of the amendment, you can find the full document HERE. But don’t worry—I’ve already done the homework for you. You Can Still Travel to Cuba LegallyYes, despite the headlines and confusion, travel to Cuba is still allowed. The easiest and most popular way to go is under the “Support for the Cuban People” license. This category is designed for travelers who want to engage with local entrepreneurs, artists, musicians, and small businesses—helping the Cuban people directly rather than supporting government-run entities. This is exactly what we focus on at Sheyla Adventure Travel. Our escorted group tours to Cuba are thoughtfully curated to offer immersive, culturally rich experiences that comply with current U.S. travel regulations. You'll stay at privately owned casas particulares, dine in family-run paladares, and meet inspiring local creatives and change makers. Should you still be interested in exploring Cuba authentically and responsibly, visit our Cuba tour page to see upcoming departures.
