If you're a fan of all things tropical and seeking a unique escape, the Margaritaville at Sea cruise is a standout choice. My recent voyage on this vibrant cruise line, following a friend's wedding in Florida, was a one-of-a-kind adventure. The cruise is a burst of color, music, and non-stop fun, setting it apart from other cruise experiences.
Onboard Experience: Entertainment and Activities Galore
From the moment I stepped onboard, I was surrounded by the lively and laid-back atmosphere synonymous with Margaritaville. The décor is a delightful mix of tropical vibes inspired by Key West and Cuba, which made me feel right at home. The ship itself is older and could use some updates, but the cheerful ambiance and festive colors more than made up for it. Entertainment was a standout feature of the trip, catering to a wide range of preferences. Whether you're into live shows or prefer a relaxed evening with music in the background, this cruise has something for everyone. The evening shows were top-notch, featuring a diverse cast of singers, dancers, acrobats, magicians, and comedians. The solo performers at various bars added a charming touch to the experience. The ship offers three pool areas for those who enjoy outdoor relaxation, including one exclusively for adults. There's also a gym for fitness enthusiasts, a casino for those who want to try their luck, and a fun space called Dis 'an Dat on deck 10 for golf and pickleball lovers. Ports of Call: Exploring Key West and Cozumel The cruise itinerary included stops in Key West and Cozumel, offering a tropical escape with enough time to soak in the local culture. We spent about six hours at each port exploring the highlights, grabbing a bite to eat, and tasting the laid-back island life. A little tip: On the ship, it's always "5 o'clock somewhere" (their motto), but be sure to stay on the ship's time—Eastern Standard Time—when heading ashore, not local time!
Food & Dining: A Culinary Adventure Awaits
When it comes to dining, Margaritaville at Sea offers a mix of specialty and complimentary options. Seven specialty dining restaurants were onboard: Islander Dining Room, JWB Prime Steakhouse, Far Side Sushi, Island Eats, Tiki Grill, Margaritaville Coffee Shop, and In-Room Dining, which are not included in the voyage price. For those looking for included options, there were five complimentary venues: Mexican Cutie Cantina, Fins Dining, Cheeseburger in Paradise Burger Bar, Port of Indecision Buffet, and Frank & Lola's Pizzeria, which is perfect for late-night bites. While the variety is excellent, your choices might still feel limited if you're a vegetarian like me. Despite that, the meals I tried were flavorful and fit well with the cruise's tropical theme. Cabin Comfort: Your Cozy Retreat Initially, I was booked in a cozy inside cabin, comfortable enough for a short getaway. However, I was pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to a balcony suite. Although the view was partially obstructed, the cabin was spacious, well-maintained, and, most importantly, quiet at night. It's always a win when you can retreat to a peaceful room after a day of activities.
Pros and Cons: Who Is This Cruise For? A Cruise for Everyone
On the downside, the ship's age, over 20 years, is evident in some areas. While it could use a facelift, it still retains its charm and offers a fantastic experience. If you're not too concerned with having the latest and most incredible amenities, you'll still have a great time. This cruise is best suited for those looking for a quick, stress-free escape—think of it as a long weekend adventure that doesn't break the bank. Final Thoughts: Worth the Experience? Overall, I enjoyed my time aboard the Margaritaville at Sea. The vibrant atmosphere, lively entertainment, and convenient itinerary make it an excellent option for anyone needing a tropical break without the commitment of a more extended cruise. If you're looking for a budget-friendly, family-oriented experience with lots of entertainment packed into a few days, give it a try. You might just find your new favorite way to escape to paradise!
